 provide difficulties in monitoring traffic because each port is isolated until it transmits information and even then only the sending and receiving ports are connected. Consequently, any exterior modems can be attached to any computer that has an rs-232 port, which almost all personal computers have. Parity can be none (n), odd (o), or even (e); the parity bit is borrowed from the information bits, so 8/e/1 means that one of the 8 information bits is used as the parity bit. Storage hardware provides permanent storage of information and programs for retrieval by the computer. It is not uncommon for a small computer system interface host to be built into a personal computer motherboard as an integral part, however this typically makes the board quite expensive and it is more usual to retain the small computer system interface host as a separate component which can be easily replaced or transferred to another machine.
